Education

Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) – ACT is the subject community for Citizenship teachers and educators. We support all those engaged in leading, teaching and supporting high quality Citizenship education in schools and colleges.

Political Literacy Oversight Group PLOG – All-party Parliamentary group on political literacy

Civic Universities Network – The Civic University Network is led by Sheffield Hallam University, and supports universities across the UK to develop and embed civic aspirations at an institutional level, particularly through developing and publishing Civic University Agreements.

Economy and workplace

Coops UK – Co‑operatives UK is the voice for the UK’s thousands of independent co‑ops. We support co‑ops to start up and thrive – join us to access expert advice, events and training. Find out what a co‑op actually is and how we can help.

Our Vision

Everyone has confidence, contacts, knowledge, skills and support to have an effective say in society to create a world that works better for everyone in a sustainable environment. To do this we encourage educators, civil society and governments at all levels to increase education and support for political participation at all levels, particularly for people with least access to power.

Founders

Titus Alexander

Titus founded Democracy Matters in 2009 as an alliance for education in citizenship, democracy and practical politics. After 2010 the coalition government cut funding for the sector so that many members closed or reduced capacity. He is relaunching DM as a directory.
